Obviously, these DIY pieces are not actually Shrinkydinks, and are more properly referred to as “shrink film.” It’s also important to note that the colors become darker/more intense when the pieces shrink (purple looks almost black), so you will need to color them lighter than your desired end result. Supposedly you can color these, from the backs (so use clear plastic, obviously), with chalk or colored pencils, if you lightly sand them with fine-grit sandpaper first to give the chalk/pencil something to grip. (I’m told you can also make them into shapes (like rings), but I’ve not tried this.) They’re hot, though, so don’t just pick them up with your fingers. First, I cut the sides off of the cups/boxes, so I was working with just flat pieces.
You will see the plastic curl up and then it will flatten back out. At first, the Shrinky Dinks will curl up, but then they will flatten back out. When you take the baking dish with baked designs out of the oven you may need to flatten out the designs slightly with a flat object in case they have curled. In just a few minutes, usually 1 to 3, they begin to curl, twist, and then flatten as they shrink. Shrink plastic will curl up in the oven, but it should flatten out as it bakes.

If it is not, the image will be too dark to see when the plastic shrinks to its final size. The offset layer of the initial and the circle are now combined as one piece and will move to the top.
